Botanic - Austerity

Every adult should receive a Universal Basic Income
Current welfare programs like Universal Credit, PIP & Work Capability Assessment need reformed
The Bedroom Tax should be abolished
Austerity cuts in the community should be reversed in important sectors such as the arts, youth clubs and sports
Pay-to-use ATMs should be scrapped
Supermarkets, restaurants, cafes & other businesses should be required to donate unused food to food banks instead of letting it waste or throwing it away
The £20 Universal Credit uplift should be returned until a new welfare program is ready to replace Universal Credit
Comments
  • Universal Benefit Income does not address the causes of poverty and inequality and ultimately serves to mask the economic and social realities whihc cause them. UBI serves as a conscience soother rather than a serious assault on the systemic causes of poverty and inequality
  • On question: Pay-to-use ATMs should be scrapped - ATM machines and access to cash should be free and pay-to-use machines only in areas where no alternative is possible
